Top London stations for single ladies and laddies revealed by match.com study

With so many singles congregating in the capital, the competition to score a date in London can sometimes seem intense. But help is at hand, thanks to a new study conducted by match.com, which shows Underground stations with the best ratios of single females to males, and vice versa.

Those looking for a lady would be well advised to take the Westbound platform to Goldhawk Road, which has almost four single females to every single male in the surrounding area. Other top stops for finding single ladies are all also in West London, with Turnham Green (3.3 females per male), East Acton (3:1), Shepherd’s Bush Market (3:1) and North Acton (2.7:1) completing the top five.

Single men, by contrast, are most likely to be found around East London’s DLR line. Pudding Mill Lane in Stratford is home to 4.6 male daters for every female, while other DLR stations Westferry (4.2:1), Devons Road (2.9:1) and All Saints (2.7:1) could also prove happy hunting grounds for those on the lookout for a man.

match.com conducted the study using geo-location technology in its mobile app to discover exactly how many of its members were within a one mile radius of each station. All 153 London Underground stations in Zones 1 and 2 were tested, giving a complete picture of the capital’s dating scene. Stations in Central London had the highest total number of singles in the surrounding area, with Liverpool St the overall hotspot for single men, and Piccadilly Circus home to the most female daters.

Stations around the City of London tended to show more male singles, with Cannon Street, Monument and Waterloo all home to high volumes of eligible bachelors. The West End featured more prominently for single ladies, with stations such as Goodge Street and Embankment making the top 10. The leafy suburbs of North London, however, were found to be among the areas with the lowest volume of daters overall: Hampstead, St John’s Wood and Swiss Cottage all featured in the bottom six for number of singles.

Kate Taylor, relationship expert for match.com, said: “We’re always trying to find new ways to bring singles together, from our Geo-Location technology showing you the singles near you, to our popular events, and we’re hoping this data provides London singles with extra insight into dating in the capital. It just shows how getting off the tube even one stop earlier could make all the difference in your quest to finding a partner.”
